Jimmy and Karen Evans was a significant source of information about biblical marriage to Katie and I. Jimmy has a great explanation to why we marry who we marry and why we should never divorce without biblical reasons.
Their relationship nearly failed in the early years and they talk about how to heal your marriage and avoid that in the 100’s of marriage videos that can be found online and in their podcast. They talk that sameness does not mean compatibility as you are wired to find your opposite. God said he would provide what is lacking in your spouse. Karen said something that struck a chord with me. She said that instead of trying to change Jimmy, she just prayed “God change me”. If all of us shared that same desire we would have amazing marriages. As much as I appreciate Karen’s desire to do this, the bible is clear we are supposed to.
Jimmy recommended reading the 5 Love Languages book and taking the Clifton strengths test. Katie and I did both and our 5 love languages were almost identical but we could not have been more opposites on the Clifton test.
While it’s sharing the same love languages its not a requirement. The important part is, you know your spouse’s love languages and serve them.
I feel God uses your opposites in the Clifton test as a positive to use you for His purpose as a couple. Just know, those opposite characteristics will cause challenges in your life. You need to learn to embrace those differences. Clifton More Info
